Please try and feed your baby 2 hours prior to visit. If this isn't possible and baby becomes hungry close to visit, please try to do a partial feed.

Please feel free to bring your breastfeeding pillow, although we do have several you may use. If you are having trouble with your pump, please bring it to the appointment so we can troubleshoot.  One support person is welcome to accompany you, but please no siblings!

During a Bodywork Session

You or your child will be lying on a padded massage table in loose comfortable clothing. Using a soft touch, which is generally no greater than 5 grams (about the weight of a nickel), the therapists will be using subtle palpating and treatment techniques that support the wisdom of your body as it finds its own path to healing and wellness.

The therapist's hands will evaluate the craniosacral and fascial system by gently feeling various locations of the body to check for ease of motion, tightness and the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid pulsing around the brain and spinal cord.  The brain’s ability to expand and contract, which allows for the cerebral spinal fluid to be sent throughout the body, will also be evaluated.  Secondly, tightness is released not only in the craniosacral region but in the soft tissue areas as well that surround the central nervous system.  Once this is achieved, the body then shows where else tightness needs to be released and they will follow to support that release and healing.

Children may be lying on the floor, sitting up, or even moving around.  Favorite toys or objects of comfort are great to bring along but we do have toys in the office as well.

You may feel a sensation of floating or letting go. After a session, clients often feel deeply relaxed, like they have had a deep sleep even though they were awake during the treatment. Children may sleep through the treatment while others may be alert and even crawling around. Older children are usually comfortable lying on the table and relaxing. Children may be silent or vocal or sometimes cry.

After a Bodywork Session

Immediately after a session most people feel blissfully relaxed. A reduction in pain or an increase in function and range of motion may happen immediately or gradually happen over the next few days or weeks. There may also be some general aches and pains that come and go for a few days after the session. Other people may feel a little emotional for a day or so after their session. Any uncomfortable sensations are temporary and are a part of your body releasing old patterns and tension which should not last for long.

What to Expect & Frequently Asked Questions

What to Expect at Your Visit

Before Your Appointment

You will receive a brief intake form prior to your visit so I can understand your medical history, current concerns, and goals for treatment. For infants and children, please wear comfortable clothing that allows movement. For infants coming in for any feeding-related issues, please aim to have eaten about 1 hour before your appointment, but if that doesn’t work out, no problem — come as you are and we will make it all work. For all others, please wear clothing that allows for movement. You will not need to change into a gown.

During Your Visit

Your visit is unhurried and individualized. Appointments typically include:

  • A detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and goals

  • A hands-on structural evaluation

  • Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) tailored specifically to your body and complaints

OMM is a hands-on medical treatment used to address restrictions in muscles, joints, connective tissue, fascia, nerves, lymphatics, organs, circulation, and more, that may be contributing to pain or poor function. Techniques are chosen based on your age, comfort level, diagnosis, and overall health.

You are encouraged to ask questions at any point during your visit.

How Does OMM Feel?

Most patients describe OMM as gentle and relaxing. Some techniques involve light pressure or stretching; others may feel more direct but should never be painful. Some techniques involve patient participation. For infants and children, only the most gentle techniques are used. If anything feels uncomfortable, treatment is adjusted immediately.

After Your Treatment

After treatment, you may feel more relaxed, looser, or lighter. Some patients experience mild soreness for 24–48 hours, similar to post-exercise soreness. Staying well hydrated and engaging in gentle movement is encouraged. I ask that you avoid any other bodywork therapies for 72 hours, including physical/occupational therapy, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture, etc. Any specific after-care recommendations will be reviewed with you.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments varies depending on your condition, how long symptoms have been present, and how your body responds. Most patients notice improvement after one visit, while others benefit from a series of treatments. A personalized plan will be discussed — there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
